Jairam Tudu ( also spelled Jayram Tudu or Joyram Tudu;Santali:ᱡᱚᱭᱨᱟᱢ ᱴᱩᱰᱩ, Odia: ଜୟରାମ ଟୁଡୁ; Bengali: জয়রাম টুডু; Hindi: जयराम टुडू) is an Indian Santali writer known for his contribution to Santali literature. He received the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar in 2020 for his Santali biography Bhanj Kul Bhurkah Ipil Sunaram Soren, which narrates the life of Santali scholar Sunaram Soren.[1]

Early life

Jairam Tudu was born on 12 October 1964 in Mundhabani village of Mayurbhanj district, in the Indian state of Odisha. He belongs to the Santali-speaking community and writes primarily in the Santali language . [2]

Literary career

Tudu is associated with literary activities that promote Santali language and literature.[3] His writings mainly focus on biographical works and children's literature, documenting the lives and contributions of important personalities from the Santali community.

His book Bhanj Kul Bhurkah Ipil Sunaram Soren presents the life and achievements of Santali scholar Sunaram Soren and received national recognition after being awarded the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar in 2020.[4]

Tudu has also been associated with initiatives promoting Santali books and literature through literary events and book fairs.[3]
