Ganesh Marandi is an Indian Santali poet and school teacher known for his contributions to children's literature in the Santali language. He received the Bal Sahitya Puraskar in 2022 from the Sahitya Akademi for his Santali poetry collection Hapan Mai.
His writings focus on Santali folklore, children's rhymes and the cultural life of Adivasi communities.
Early life
Ganesh Marandi developed an interest in Santali literature during his youth after reading Santali magazines and literary publications available at village fairs and local markets. Inspired by these works, he began writing poems and literary pieces in Santali.[1]
Career
Marandi works as a teacher and has been involved in promoting Santali language and literature through educational and literary activities. Alongside teaching, he writes poems and children's literature aimed at encouraging young readers to engage with the Santali language.[1]
Works
Hapan Mai is a Santali poetry collection written for children in the Ol Chiki script. The book contains poems and rhymes inspired by Santali folklore and everyday life in Adivasi communities.[1]
Awards
- Bal Sahitya Puraskar (2022) – Awarded by the Sahitya Akademi for the Santali poetry collection Hapan Mai.[2] The award carries a citation, an engraved copper plaque and a cash prize of ₹50,000.[3]
