Fagu Baskey is an Indian Santali poet and educator from Odisha. He received the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar in 2025 for his Santali poetry collection Ala Saon Inj.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Fagu Baskey was born in Bholagadia village in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.[2] He grew up in a Santali-speaking indigenous community, where local culture and oral traditions influenced his literary orientation.[2]
Career
Baskey works as an assistant teacher at a primary school in the Bangriposi block of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha.[2] Alongside his teaching career, he has been actively involved in writing poetry in the Santali language, contributing to contemporary indigenous literature in India.[1]

In 2025, Baskey was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for his poetry collection Ala Saon Inj.[1] The award, presented by the Sahitya Akademi, recognises outstanding literary work by Indian writers below the age of 35 and includes a cash prize, an engraved copper plaque, and a citation.[1][4][5]
